Nose
WorkNose Work is a recreational, fun sport created
and sanctioned by the
National Association of Canine Scent Work
and borrows elements from the training methodology of
detection K9s (arson investigation, bomb and narcotics
searches, etc). Your dog will learn to use its nose to
locate a (legal) target scent or odor. You can learn to
work as a team for fun or competition!
ANY dog – any breed or temperament type can
participate in Nose Work training. No “formal obedience”
is needed. Big or little, rowdy or sedate, active or
kicked back, your dog will LOVE Nose Work training. If
your dog has a nose, you need only find what truly
motivates your dog to start down the nose work path! See
your dog get turned on by doing what comes naturally to
him.
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and an inborn
desire to hunt. Your dog’s nose is about 100 X more
sensitive than your own. A dog can detect 1 teaspoon of
sugar in the water it would take to fill two Olympic
sized swimming pools – your dog is built to sniff!
The Nose Work classes are designed to develop your
dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire
to hunt and their love of toys, food, mental stimulation
and exercise. It’s a great way for your dog to have fun,
build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical
energy.
Get started in Nose Work and give your dog the gift
of scent detection work. You and your dog will have a
great time, and you will have the opportunity to
experience just how truly brilliant and talented your
dog is.
